Personality Through and Through

The youngest of the Biery Great Grandkids. Jackson born January 25, 2008. Wyatt born January 14, 2008, and Connor born January 11, 2008. (Connor is slouching, but he definitely is the smallest of the three.)

Walk, walk walk, all I love to do is walk!

All smiles with my crazy hair in the tub.

Mr. Independent, I can feed myself, thank you very much!

My First Trip to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway

This past Thursday, Jason took Connor to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the first time. They went to see the Indy Lights practice and qualifying. Connor seemed to have a great time. Grandpa Mac is sure excited that Connor likes racecars. Once he got home from the track, we watched race coverage on the news. When he saw the cars, he got super excited and pointed to the screen. It was almost like, "Hey, I was there today Mom!!"

Our kids will never...

Our kids will never...

  • Make or receive a mixed tape as a cheap yet sentimental gift from a friend/girlfriend/boyfriend.
  • Be able to make a prank phone call, or secretly call a crush and hang up once they answer the phone.
  • Wait anxiously for their pictures to be developed only to realize that all of the pictures are blurry, black, or are filled with random pictures of the floor or ceiling.
  • Be disappointed when they miss a big episode or the season finally of their favorite show.
  • Know what it is like to be on a long road trip with only a book of Mad Libs, coloring books, favorite reading books, and a list of I Spy games.
  • Know how to program a VCR, or be irked when they think they had recorded their favorite show, but it didn't tape.
  • Know or utter the phrase, "Be Kind, Rewind."
  • Realize the value of having at least a quarter, so they can call home on a pay phone.
  • See computers as a luxury, same for cell phones.
  • Know what it is like to patiently wait for your favorite song on the radio, so you can record it on a blank tape. It was an art to capture the song without missing the first couple of seconds.
  • Know what it is like to have to rewind or fast forward to get to your favorite song or to turn the tape over.

I don't particularly believe it is bad that our kids won't get to experience these things. Although, mixed tapes were kind of fun. It is just interesting to think about how their childhood will be different from ours. At least from my childhood, I do hope that the themes of love, fun, and friendship will remain the same.

New Adventures

Check out some of Connor's new adventures this week. I think he may be a little too young for some of the activities, but it was a fun experience for Mommy and Daddy. We were able to get some fun pictures!!
We took Connor to the zoo this weekend. He loves his animal books, so we thought he would really enjoy it. He wasn't too terribly interested. Granted we went a little late, and cut into his nap time. Here is Connor and Daddy in front of the tigers, one of Connor's favorites.

Connor and Mommy at the giraffes

Jason took Connor to a couple different parks this week. We thought he would love the slides and all the new equipment. What did he want to do? Not swing, not slide, not bounce, but just walk around. Right now all he wants to do is walk everywhere. If it is a new surface, such as gravel or dirt you can't get him off of it. Hopefully one day soon he will want to actually play at the park.

Crawling in the tunnel

Getting ready to go over a little suspension bridge. According to Jason, he loved this bridge. He would walk to the middle and turn around and walk back over and over again. He never crossed the whole bridge.

Cutie climbing up the steps!

Connor getting ready for a visit to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Daddy is planning on taking Connor to the track next week, and we have to protect his little ears. Grandpa Mac would be so proud, because he loves to watch the racecars on TV.

I love May!!

I love May. It is my favorite month! To me it represents a promise: a promise of longer days and warmer weather, a promise of summer vacation, a promise of spending long lazy days outside, and a promise of better things to come. I always wanted to get married in May. Instead, I got married in November. I always wanted to have a kid in May. Instead, I had one in January. (Notice a trend here? Although, I did find out I was pregnant in May) Of course May is the best when you are a teacher! Everything is winding down, and everyone is excited. The last day of school is euphoric. (If you are not a teacher, remember how excited you were as a kid on the last day of school and multiply that by 25!!) I love the Indy 500, Memorial Day weekend, and now Mother's Day. They all revolve around food, family, and fun!! It is just the best.

For the last 12 years, Jason has ran the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon, and this year was no exception. I always enjoy being downtown to watch the Mini and sometimes participate. Sarah and I ran the Mini in 2002, and this year we ran the 5K. Although we ran 10 miles less, I am so glad we did it. Our goal was to finish under 30 minutes. I finished in 30 min 2 seconds, and Sarah was a couple of seconds quicker than me. So, I was close to our goal. I am so glad that we went down and ran, even for 3 miles. It was nice to have a goal to shoot for! Thanks Sarah, for being my rabbit there toward the end!!

Even if you are one of my many friends to loves the Fall, take some time and enjoy May!!! It is a great month!!!
